Update: Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis leaves with injury vs. Illinois football

Purdue defensive end George Karlaftis left with an injury during the second quarter against the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Karlaftis was helped off the field with 4:52 left in the second quarter. It seemed he suffered an injury to his lower left leg after a player was pushed into him. 

Karlaftis, who attended West Lafayette High School, did not return to the game. He had a sack before leaving the game.

On the postgame radio broadcast, Purdue football head coach Jeff Brohm said of Karlaftis' injury, "I hope we can get him back."

Purdue led Illinois 14-0 when Karlaftis left the game. Purdue defeated Illinois 31-24. 

Purdue improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten. Illinois went to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the Big Ten.

After Saturday, the all-time series is tied 45-45-6 between Illinois and Purdue.
