West Lafayette police and the Tippecanoe County coroner's office are investigating Sunday's death of a 20-year-old at an apartment on South River Road.

WEST LAFAYETTE — Police don't know why 20-year-old Dominic Crescencio Vargas died Sunday or what might have killed him.

Police and paramedics were called to an apartment at 108 S. River Road at 12:28 p.m. Sunday. Vargas was alive when paramedics arrived, according to police, who do not suspect homicide or suicide.

West Lafayette Detective Jon Eager said Vargas' death might have been caused by a medical issue. Tippecanoe County Coroner Donna Avolt said an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Vargas "was a senior studying supply chain information and analytics at the Krannert School of Management," Purdue University spokesman Brian Zink said, noting that Vargas' hometown was San Jose, California.
